What I Miss

March 11, 2008 08:43 by Luke

So I have been living up here in Washington for about 5 months now and I am really missing some of the food I am used to in San Diego. In no particular order they are:

Hopefully it is just a matter of having to learn about the local spots up here for good food. I am not all that hopeful that I will find mexican food up here like they have in San Diego.

Having just eaten Phil's Barbeque, I can certainly understand why you miss it. I do think of you every time I drink someone elses drink at In N Out.

That's a very nice looking burger. Makes me want to drive down the road and get one, but we just had In-N-Out last night for dinner. I really can't have it 2 days in a row like that. Have to pace yourself. Smile

Since you're from CA it depends on what your definition of good BBQ is. I grew up in Kansas, so I like beef with a sweeter sauce. There's the Longhorn BBQ in Pioneer Square in Seattle and in Kent. Which I've heard is good. Dixies was OK, the sauce wasn't that great but the meat was pretty tender.

Burgers, Fatburger in Redmond and Bellevue is pretty good. But the best burgers are in Seattle, Red Mill bugers and Dick's burgers.

Mexican ... your best bet is a taco truck. I don't know if they have any on the eastside, but there are a lot in Seattle. One on Aurora Ave near 145th st is great. It's a converted school bus. There's a pretty good Mexican place near 10th and Pike. Mr. Villas is on Lake City Way and it's really good. They even use the white Mexican cheese instead of chedder.

          "Taco Truck"???
          FTW!

At this point, you should probably just try to forget about "mexican food"- there is no El Indio where you are now.

          Instead, think: FISH.

You need more posts like this and fewer posts like yui.asp.c++.clownpenis.fart... Then I will become a regular reader. But as of right now, you are just getting kick from the boss lady blog. I'm all into snaggletooths and making all your friends think you got carjacked.

Hey, my head shape looks like Chris's real headshape on the profile pic. I guess he just got lucky that it matched. Dang.

From the post I was trying to figure out what part of Washington you had moved to...  You see, I have the opposite problem when it comes to BBQ.  I lived up in Renton for 7 years and become utterly addicted to Dixie's BBQ over on Northup Way at I-405.  I'm now down in Arizona and without Dixie's.  Unfortunately, I'm having a Pavlov reaction right now just thinking about it.

If you haven't been, go check it out.  Try the Dixie Special.  Go easy on The Man though...

The closest I ever got with Mexican food was a joint down in Kent.  The family was from Guadalajara if I remember right. Unfortunately, they had toned things down a bit compared to what I was used to coming from the Southwest.  You might check them out if you are curious...  No guarantees though, I haven't been there in 11 years.  Here is a link:

Good luck on finding a bit of home up there in the Northwest.
